Boogers

I had a conversation with one of my students from last year on the playground yesterday after I caught her picking her nose.

It made me smile and giggle for the rest of the day. I hope it does the same for you.

Ms. Michaela "Can I get you a tissue to help with your boogers. It will make it easier for your nose."

Little 3 year old: "Well...sometimes da boogers get stuck way up high in der and dey don't come out."

Ms. Michaela: "Ohh I see...well do you think if you blew your nose reaaaaaally hard into the tissue they'd come out and you'd feel better?"

The little 3 year girl old pauses for a moment and considers this.

She replies, very matter of fact, "No...my booga's don't work dat way."

Fair enough.
:)

One day at a time

When doubts flood your mind
And you don't know what to do
When pressures crowd your soul
And the sun can't shine through
When you feel you walk alone
No one to hold your hand
When darkness shrouds your mind
And no one understands

Take it one day at a time...

When going home seems to hard
And two jobs get you down
When the hours get too long
And a hug just can't be found
When time moves so fast
And you are standing still
I'm with you in spirit
I know how you feel

Take it one day at a time...

When your longing is great
And you need someones touch
You need arms to hold you
Thats not asking too much
When happiness seems to elude you
And nothing goes your way
When shadows cloud your mind
Of the ghost of yesterday

Take it one day at a time...

Know thyself, screw everyone else

I find it so refreshing when I read an interview/article of a woman with a strong sense of self. A lady with focus, drive, passion, strength, smarts and can still make time for family. A lady that defines sexiness by authenticity, strength, passion and no bullshit. Cate Blanchett is one of my favorites. She moves to the beat of her own drum and makes no apologies for who she is. She does what she wants to do when she wants to do it and surrounds herself with people that know, understand, love and support her.

It is important for me to always be reminded of my own strength. It is easy for to take on the feelings of others and make them more important than my own. Just yesterday I was tested with this and almost immediately went into an tailspin of anxious thinking: What will they think of me? Will they not like me if I do this? Will they talk bad about me if I do this? (Even though what I was doing was completely neccessary in me getting better).

I almost lost my center from these silly thoughts and nearly forgot to take care of me until I realized...who the f cares?! At the end of the day, I have people that know, love, respect and support me....no matter how I'm feeling on any given day of the week. That is all that matters.
If someone doesn't like what I do that is their issue, not mine. I am the only one who knows how to take care of me and it is up to me to do it.

Cate Blanchett is a smart lady. A classy lady. A pure talent. A force to be reckoned with.

Thanks for the reminder, Cate.

Excerpt from article “I’m not focused on what other people think of me,” she continues, her voice again silky and measured. “Some people get you and some people don’t, and to spend your life trying to make people understand how deep and complex and varied you are—I think that way lies madness."

Home Sick

Called out of work today and tomorrow and have been sick and stuck at home since Saturday night with a stomach bug and a horrible cold. In the course of two days I have nearly finished a very great book, "The Amateur Marriage" By Anne Tyler, watched a marathon of Housewives of New York and New Jersey (don't understand how women can live in a world with that drama), and tried to eat some food with no such luck.

I remember as a kid, I loved staying home from school sick. My Mom would rent movies from Blockbuster, make me soup and get me gingerale and all was right in the world.

As I've gotten older, being stuck at home sick is just plain boring and miserable...no matter how good a book you've got. Or maybe I just really feel like crap.

Thank god the Romanian has been so sweet and taking good care of me. Both he and Rudy are watching out for their girl.

Back to bed...

This goes out to...well, you know who you are!

"If you don't like something change it.
If you can't change it, change your attitude.
Don't complain."
Maya Angelou

"If you have time to whine and complain about something then you have the time to do something about it."
Anthony J. D'Angelo

I'm tired of listening to it.

Crossroads

I am staring at a pretty big crossroad in my life right now and as a result am very scared, anxious, and sad as to what the future will hold. What direction will we go? Right? Left? Together or separate?

Right now I am being tested, in more ways than I would like, on the lesson in letting go and trusting that everything will work out as it should. Very difficult to do when your heart is on the line. Not having control over your heart and the person holding it is hands down one of life's most terrifying moments and greatest thrills.

It is time for me to breathe. Keep breathing. Trust in myself and know that no matter who may share this road with me for however long they choose...I will continue to follow my path with purpose, passion, faith, love, and beauty. Open to everything and everyone that comes in and out of my life.

It is time to let go of any expectations I may have while remaining hopeful of the outcome I desire.

It is time to come back to myself, ground myself in me. Take time for just me, pamper myself. Treat myself well.

It is time to breathe and trust.

And keep on walkin'.

This is out of my hands.

My Life

My friend Casey made a mixed cd as a 30th birthday gift to all of us girls. One of the songs on the mix, I have been listening to over and over again. I love it. It is a great reminder to me to celebrate my life and all the small and incredible things I do (we all do) every day maybe without even knowing it. Though the things we may do in this life may sometimes feel small, we surely do leave our mark in more ways than we could ever imagine.

Iris Dement: My Life
My life, it don't count for nothing.
When I look at this world, I feel so small.

My life, it's only a season:A passing September that no one will recall
But I gave joy to my mother.
And I made my lover smile.
And I can give comfort to my friends when they're hurting.
And I can make it seem better for a while.

My life, it's half the way travelled,
And still I have not found my way out of this night.
An' my life, it's tangled in wishes,
And so many things that just never turned out right.
But I gave joy to my mother.
And I made my lover smile.
And I can give comfort to my friends when they're hurting.
And I can make it seem better,
I can make it seem better,
I can make it seem better
for a while.

Beautiful Friends

I have just returned from a wonderful long weekend trip with my VA girls to Outer Banks, NC. It was such a sweet treat to be able to catch up with this group of amazing women and dear friends that I have known for 20-30 years. It is incredible to me that we have stayed in touch and still remain dear friends despite the many years that have gone by. It is a gift indeed to be able to look at your friends, now 30 years old, and know that they know you better than most anybody. They have seen you through puberty, break ups, some of life's most difficult and most amazing times. Even though we only see each other once a year, it is a time of catching up that and laughing over life that I look most forward to.

These women, whether they know it or not, have the amazing ability of bringing me back to my true self, and reminding me that who that girl/woman was and is...is pretty amazing. These women ground me in a way that when it is time to say goodbye, I walk away feeling stronger, more aware, and happy knowing that they have my back no matter what.
